My name is Sara D’Amato and I am a dancer and architect. With my former background in kinesiology, my work questions how the body moves through architecture which plays a role as a container for movement and as a source of choreographic material. My Masters Thesis in Architecture entitled “Choreographing Architecture: Developing a Movement Language for Creative Making Tasks” linked computational descriptions of design processes with choreographic languages in order to develop a methodology for design instruction, improvisation, and collaboration. My goal is to bring the methodology of this work outside of the academic realm – developing new dance experiences that are rooted in both movement language and improvisational techniques, from an architectural perspective.
